THE ATTRACTIVE GARDENS are interesting all through the year. Thousands of daffodils are followed by carpets of bluebells. Herbaceous borders and old roses flower all summer.

The earliest record of the garden is 1686 and there are also plans of the elaborate formal gardens created by the Earl of Jersey in 1709. The garden and lake were altered considerably in the middle of the 18th century. The bones of the old formal garden can still be seen.

Following the Great Storm twenty years ago, hedges, avenues and parterres have been planted in the style of the original garden. The latest restoration project is woodland walks in the wild garden.
