Above our front door at Squerryes Court sits the family motto: Licet Esse Beatis, which means: ‘it’s permitted to be joyful’. Today we say we’re in the business of creating joy.
It has been the spirit of the 2,500 acre Squerryes estate for 300 years, influencing all we do, from bottling that joy in the form of fine vintage sparkling wine, to the places we have created for people to enjoy the simple pleasures of life through delicious food and wine or the spaces to hire, to celebrate those special moments with friends and family.
Whatever it is that brings you to Squerryes, our priority is to make sure you take with you a memory that has our stamp on it; enjoyment and pleasure.
Discover sweet and savoury treats for every occasion, a cheese counter stocked with British cheeses from Neal's Yard of Borough Market, the best selection of English still wines from the region and an array of locally made and seasonal foods from some very special artisan producers.
Every Saturday we have an Estate Food Market outside the deli, including fresh fish and seafood from our coastal waters, freshly baked sourdoughs and pastries and locally reared meats from our native breeds.
High on the North Downs in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, sits our chalk-rich vineyard. At 150 metres above sea-level we are 1 degree Celsius cooler than most other vineyards in the south-east of England giving us a long cool summer.
Our vines flourish in this longer growing season, producing fruit that has the perfect balance of natural sweetness and acidity. And it is only this fruit that we use in the making of our English sparkling wine.
Enjoy a tour of our vineyard and learn about the 300 year old Squerryes estate, the fascinating history of the spirit of our house, and the story of how a disagreement with a French Champagne House led to the Warde family planting vines on the North Downs at the Gateway to the Garden of England.
Having learnt about the spirit of our terroir, it's a short walk to our special tasting room, where you'll discover more about our ancestral estate and vintage sparkling wines.
