Celebrating English Wine Week at Squerryes

17-25 June 2023

There’s a lot to celebrate about English wine and we’re proud to be an award-winning producer here in Westerham. As part of the Wine Garden of England, we’ve been championing English wine for a while now together with other makers in Kent, so we’re looking forward to celebrating English Wine Week and hope you can visit to raise a glass with us.

In the Winery Restaurant, we invite you to try a flight of the finest English wines, selected by our Master of Wine, Laura Evans. Diners can enjoy three wines not normally available by the glass, including the 2013 Squerryes vintage sparkling wine, a red and a white, so you can taste, in our opinion, the best of English wines. To mark English Wine Week, we’ll also be offering 15% off Squerryes magnums, perfect to enjoy on the terrace in the garden of England this summer.

Laura Evans, Squerryes Master of Wine and curator of our selection of English wines said:

“There has never been a more exciting time to be involved in the English wine scene, with the quality and selection of wines available now better than ever, to the point where they are able to hold their own alongside the rest of the world. Highly skilled and trained viticulturalists and winemakers have brought expertise in the vineyard and the winery on a scale not seen before, and experimentation with different grapes and winemaking methods is yielding some wonderful results, helped by a number of good summers.”

If you’ve not recently been in the Cellar Door, you won’t have seen the diverse selection of English wines from our fellow Wine Garden of England members, as well as other recommended makers selected by Laura Evans. In fact, we have over 40 English wines to choose from and we invite you to sample selected wines by the glass, as well as our signature Squerryes 2019 rosé. Staff will be on hand to discuss and advise on English wines plus visitors will receive a 10% discount off a case of 6 bottles of English still wines during English Wine Week.

Then there's the Taste of Squerryes wine flight available from the Deli where you can try our signature Blanc de Blancs, rosé and vintage Squerryes wines for just £10. Take note of the different blends of chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier grapes, as well as the subtle influences of the terroir and climate from each year of harvest. Our charcuterie and cheese tasting boards make a great accompaniment to this in our opinion too!

Or for an impromptu bite to eat and a glass of wine, take a seat in the Garden Café as you look out over the vines on our North Downs estate. With select English wine available by the glass or bottle, taste some of the best the country has to offer, including our home-grown signature Squerryes sparkling wines.

Henry Warde, Managing Director of Squerryes and Chair of the Wine Garden of England said:

'English Wine Week is a great opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the extraordinary rise of the English Wine Industry. It's a privilege to represent Kent as the current chair of the Wine Garden of England and at Squerryes we are proud to be producing truly world class sparkling wines from the region. We are busy building one of the best English still wine lists both in our Cellar Door shop and restaurant, so there is no better place to come and celebrate English Wine Week.'

We’re also taking the opportunity during English Wine Week to launch our 2019 Squerryes Brut vintage. We hope you will enjoy tasting this as much as we’ve enjoyed making it. The anticipation from the last 4 years is almost over!

Squerryes is open Wednesday to Sunday and we do recommend you book well in advance to dine in the Winery Restaurant. There is no need to book in advance for the Garden Café and Tasting Tables in the Estate Deli.

We look forward to welcoming you during English Wine Week.
